The National Dairy Show drew herds of people to Millstreet to look at 240 of the best looking cows.
Boyds have a repeat of their great 1-2 success in Northern Ireland

A cow which produces 13,000kg at 3.5% protein, is the 2014 National Dairy Show Irish Examiner Supreme Championship.

Glaslough Miss Petra EX91 comes from the Glaslough herd of David and Kenny Boyd in north Co Monaghan.

They farm a herd of 50 hand-picked spring calving pedigree Holsteins at Glaslough, supplying Town of Monaghan Co-op, with Kenny also raising 40,000 broiler chickens.

Thousands of dairy farmers enjoyed the event in Millstreet, Co Cork, seeing 240 of the country’s best looking dairy cows in the show ring, competing for a prize fund of €30,000 in 25 classes, judged by Welsh cow expert Iwan Rhys Morgan.

He has judged cows throughout Europe, Australia and New Zealand, and said the cows at Millstreet were the best he had seen.

Glaslough Miss Petra EX91 is also the reigning Balmoral champ and Baileys Cow reserve.

At Millstreet, the Boyds repeated their great 1-2 success earlier this year in the Northern Ireland National Holstein Show championship, with Glaslough Goldwyn Bret again the reserve champ last week.

Their domination of the show awards was reflected in their Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor double.

There ws a 1-2 also for Patrick Ahern, Rylane, Co Cork, with Champion and Reserve Champion Jersey.

Meanwhile, the show’s National Recognition Award went to John Barrett of Togher, Cork, a long-time top breeder and exhibitor, whose family also won the cow not in milk class.
