Awards for 500 dairy suppliers who produced healthiest milk in 2013
FBD Trust chairman, Michael Berkery, met with some of the 500 winners at this week’s National Ploughing Championships.
The award, which is sponsored by the FBD Trust, is being given to the 500 milk suppliers nationally with the lowest, weighted annual average somatic cell count (SCC) for 2013, any supplier with at least nine months of SCC results from one milk processor being considered eligible.
The analysis is based on SCC data collated by the Department of Agriculture and ICBF on behalf of Animal Health Ireland. The SCC range of the winners was from 25,000 cells/ml to 105,000 cells/ml.
Some 14 milk processors submitted data to the Department of Agriculture, and all are represented on the list of 500 winners. They include Arrabawn Co-op; Kerry Agri; Aurivo Co-op; Lakeland Dairies; and Bandon Co-op.
Also included were Lisavaird Co-op; Barryroe Co-op; Mullinahone Co-op; Dairygold Co-op; Tipperary Co-op; Drinagh Co-op; and Glanbia.
AHI has delivered the Milking For Quality Award plaques to processors, who will present them to winners in the coming weeks.
