Clampdown on MRSA on farms

Norway’s food safety authority, has ordered the destruction of all 600 pigs on a farm in Vestre Toten, in western Norway, after the discovery of the MRSA antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the herd.

It is part of Norway’s clampdown on spread of the methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus bug.

The superbug has also been found in a piglet in Northern Ireland — the first case of its kind in the UK.
