The industry body selected SuperValu’s new Caramel Biscuit Ice-Cream, which is produced by Lakeland Dairies using milk from the co-op’s local suppliers. Lakeland is headquartered in Bailieborough, Co Cavan.

The gold in the ice-cream section went to the Aldi product, Gianni’s Scrumptious Cherry Ice-Cream. Silver went to Tesco’s Finest Three Cornish Sea Salted Caramel Ice-Creams. The SuperValu and Lakeland product was the sole Irish retail award winner.

Michael Hanley of Lakeland Dairies said: “This is a great tribute to our high-quality dairy farmers and the excellent milk that they supply to us.”
