Agri Aware competition set to put role of family farming in the frame
With almost 140,000 family farms in Ireland, Agri Aware wants primary school students to sketch, draw or paint a picture of what family farming means to them.
The Irish agri-food educational body also wants second level students to get out their phones or cameras and take a photograph that sums up the importance of family farming.
Agri Aware executive director Vanessa Woods, said: “The family farm structure in Ireland is unique. Irish farmers play a pivotal role in delivering quality and sustainably produced food at an affordable price to consumers, while caring for the environment and biodiversity, and attracting tourists to Ireland.”
The aim of the International Year of Family Farming is to focus world attention on the family farm’s role in providing food security and nutrition, improving livelihoods, managing natural resources, protecting the environment, and achieving sustainable development.
Agri Aware is to host a family fun day on June 15 at its Family Farm space in Dublin Zoo. Primary school competition entrants can win an annual family pass to Family Farm. The first five runners-up will receive a €20 Eason gift voucher.
Second level students will compete for a €100 one4all voucher and a family day pass to Family Farm; while five runners-up will get Agri Aware hoodies.
