Teagasc advisers last Friday reported spring cereal drilling virtually complete, with only fields that had water lying on them left to be sown.

Strong growth over the previous three weeks, and grow-ers up to date with most field operations, were reported in winter crops.

Awns were emerging in winter barley, while flag leaves were about to emerge in wheat. Septoria was common at high levels in wheat, while Rhyncho was common in two-row barleys, reflecting the high rainfall during the spring.
