Canada recruiting 40 machine operators for 6,000-acre farms

Canada is looking to recruit 40 farm labourers to operate farm machinery on 6,000-acre farms in Saskatchewan.

Fit, active and farm-aware candidates can apply to student travel group Usit and its agricultural partners in Canada. The working dates are from May 1 to November 1, with a visa.

The package includes a salary of $1,800 (€1,170) per month, rent-free accommodation on the farm, free meals, two weeks leave, and paid overtime.

“Candidates must be willing to live in small town country locations, where these farms are situated,” said Cherrille Quilty, Usit recruitment and business development executive.

“Applicants must be able to operate farm machinery such as large tractors. Knowledge of equipment such as combine harvesters, seeding machines and sprayers would be advantageous but not essential.

“You should also be able to drive trucks or articulated vehicles, and be willing to secure a Canadian truck licence on arrival. Ideally, candidates will have some mechanical knowledge, not necessarily qualified, but can fix small problems with machinery in farms.”
