Its final 12-month EU27 cereals estimates confirm a good 2013 grain harvest, both in output and quality. The figures were issued after the annual meeting of the cereals working party of Copa-Cogeca, of which the IFA is a member.

Of particular note, EU27 soft wheat production is estimated to climb by 6.9% to 135.8m tonnes this year, barley production by 6% and maize production by 0.4%.

Sowings for the winter period also seem to be good so far but are still under pressure from winter kill and it is too early to tell how it will pan out.

In March, farmers will be in a better position to assess the acreage for production.
