He has been chairman of his local co-op, Lisavaird, since 2008, vice-chairman of Carbery Group since 2011, and chairman of the company’s audit committee.

Mr Tobin takes over from Derry Connolly as Carbery chairman, and will support management in delivering its strategy and vision.

He said he was delighted to accept the appointment and looks forward to seeing the group through its growth phase: “We are committed to paying a leading milk price and are currently ensuring we are well prepared for 2015 and the abolition of milk quotas.”

Carbery Group chief executive Dan McSweeney said Donal Tobin’s experience and expertise will build on the very solid foundation laid by outgoing chairman Derry Connolly: “His previous experience as a vice-chairman of Carbery and chairman of Lisavaird will stand to him in this new role and the management team look forward to working with him,”

Mr Tobin, who is married to Marie and has four children, has a diploma in dairy herd management and company corporate governance, and has a keen interest in GAA and rowing.
