IFA seeks more simplified models for farm inspections to cut stress

The IFA deputy leader wants real reform as part of the implementation of the new CAP reform agreement at farm level. The IFA also urges the Government to support its proposal for a farmer-friendly charter of rights to cover all farm inspections. The IFA wants Minister Simon Coveney to follow through on his commitment to a charter of rights for farmers with fewer inspections, greater tolerances and reduced penalties.

“Farm inspections are extremely complex and bureaucratic with a full inspection similar to a forensic examination involving hundreds of questions, many of which are incomprehensible,” said Mr Downey. “There is an unacceptable and constant level of stress and fear among farm families over the possibility of an inspector arriving in their yard, sometimes unannounced.”
