Tributes to Minister of State Shane McEntee
Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney said he was deeply shocked and saddened by the death of Mr McEntee. “My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family at what must be an awful and difficult time.”
Management and staff at the department conveyed their sadness and regret.
Expressing his sympathies on behalf of Teagasc, Professor Gerry Boyle said Mr McEntee was a committed, dedicated minister who worked tirelessly for the betterment of the agriculture, forestry and food sector.
Ireland East Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuinness said, “Shane was a much valued friend, with a very big heart. He loved his family, his county, his country, his GAA, his politics and he loved people.
“In his political life, he did his very best for his constituents.
“We were all delighted when he was appointed Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, a role he took to with great enthusiasm and commitment.
Fianna Fáil spokesperson on Agriculture Éamon Ó Cuív, expressing his condolences, said, “As Minister of State for Agriculture he was always very accommodating and courteous to the opposition.”
IFA president John Bryan said the farming community is shocked beyond belief at the tragic death of Mr McEntee.
“Shane and his father Tony before him were hugely committed to IFA’s work in improving the conditions of farm families, and this was appreciated the length and breadth of the country”.
He expressed his deepest sympathy to Shane McEntee’s wife Kathleen, his children Vincent, Helen and Sally, his mother Madge, and brothers and sister.
