Irish scoop top media prizes

Tributes have been flooding in to congratulate RTÉ radio presenter Damien O’Reilly on his recent Star Prize at the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ) awards in Sweden.

The presenter of the Countrywide show on RTÉ Radio One every Saturday morning (among other claims to fame) won the award for his ‘Foot and mouth disease’ radio special.

This story was broadcast on Countrywide on RTE Radio 1. Judges described O’Reilly’s entry thus: “A good piece looking back on an issue that had an incredible impact on the area’s farmers. It was a nice descriptive script, with good use of natural sound and strong interviews from people who remember the outbreak. Overall, it was a well-balanced and touching story.”
