Herds in good hands with young members
Youngsters were singled out by herds competition judges for their role in the top herds.
Sean McSweeney judged the development section, Peter Kennelly of Kerry judged the intermediate, while Victor Jackson from Wicklow judged the senior and premier sections in the competition, which is sponsored by Macroom Mills.
Mr Jackson referred to the recent statistics which show Ireland has more farmers aged over 80 than under 35, but said Cork YMA results, and what he saw when visiting the county’s top Holstein Friesian herds, indicated that their future was in good hands.
His judge’s prizes went to Michael White, Dunneen, Clonakilty, in the premier section, and Diarmuid Murphy, Innishannon, in the senior section.
