More to bale wrap than polythene
He says stretch film also needs strength, puncture and tear resistance, elasticity, ultraviolet stability and the ability to cling in all weather conditions.
Irish Polythene Agri distributes the new Silotite 5 Layer Technology stretch film for wrapping baled silage.
Mr O’Connor said it has superior ultra violet stabilisers on the outer surface of the film to face the weather; a bespoke tack on the inside face to guarantee a perfect seal between layers in both cold and warm weather (leaving no adhesive residue on the pre-stretcher rollers); and mechanical strength for tear and puncture resistance.
He said conventional stretch film has only three layers, and five are needed to withstand rigorous handling by modern bale wrappers and to cope with tough, stemmy forage crops, while providing an effective oxygen barrier which ensures better forage conservation.
