Clon Show to feature on TV special tonight
Now in its 97th year, the recent West Cork show is the special focus of an hour-long programme featuring several competitions and classes, as well as colourful characters from the town and region.
Clon Show president Michael John Calnan said: “We were delighted to facilitate the Irish TV film crew and I know that all the exhibitors, competitors and visitors will enjoy tonight’s programme. It is so important that we showcase all that is good and positive about the agricultural sector and this international TV exposure is certainly a very positive step forward for us.”
Former Agriculture Minister and Clonakilty native Joe Walsh offers insights, along with music and novelty events, such as tug-o’-war and sheaf throwing contests.
The show will also examine and explore the future for rural tourism and how the B&B sector, once the backbone of the accommodation sector in Ireland, is coping with an ever-changing tourism demographic.
Also featured is celebrity chef Kevin Dundon, who left visitors at the show watering at the mouth with his creative recipe using Cork native John Lynch’s buffalo cheese.
Irish TV presenter Pierce O’Reilly said: “The programme this week shines a spotlight on all that is positive about rural Ireland and how communities are determined to showcase and to promote their produce despite the current difficult economic situation. It was great to visit Clonakilty and see the vibrancy and innovation of the local agricultural community.”
