She launched the product in January and has had it on display at agricultural shows and marts around the country. She devised it because her father got sick after using weed killer on scrub.

Marie says it makes spraying safer and healthier because it is adjusted from inside the tractor cab.

The Safe Scrub Sprayer is an attachment on the front loader for a tractor operated sprayer.

It consists basically of a “T” shaped bar with spray nozzles, which can be extended up to six feet on either side of the loader, and adjusted for accurate spraying.

More details are on the www.safescrub.com website.

The Safe Scrub Sprayer is priced at €600.

Marie’s Young Entrepreneur Programme prize included a trip to the US for her and her teacher, visiting some of the world’s leading technology companies and entrepreneurs.

The competition is for 15-23 year-old-students in second and third-level colleges in Kerry, Cork and Limerick.

It requires them to develop a business plan from a perceived opening in the market.

More than 3000 students have studied the year-long programme of entrepreneurship skills.
