Potato firm commences shipments to Europe

Export of Irish potatoes by the Meade Potato Co of Co Meath have commenced, for processing in northern Europe.

A 1,500 tonne consignment has been shipped. They expect to deliver a second load soon, and say the trade may continue during the season. Processing potato prices range from about €24 to €44 per tonne across northern Europe. The new export outlet has been is welcomed, because of the market effect of a bumper Irish crop and falling Irish potato consumption.

Meade Potato Co has thanked the Department of Agriculture for their support and help with the venture.
