Shinagh farm walk proves popular

Upwards of 500 farmers attended the recent farm walk on the Shinagh greenfield dairy farm at Bandon.

The demonstration farm was set up by Teagasc and Shinagh Estates, which is made up of the four West-Cork co-ops, Bandon, Barryroe, Drinagh, and Lisavaird.

It carries a herd of 200 second-calf cows, and grass is maximised as the main feed ingredient.

Teagasc offers leadership for anticipated dairy expansion through its best-practice demonstration farms.

A public event or open-day will be held on each demonstration farm annually, and regular updates will be posted on websites. Farmer groups are always welcome to visit Shinagh and other demonstration farms.
