Up to 12% success rate in SPA appeals

Farmers unhappy with designation of their lands as special protection areas have been successful or partly successful in 11% of appeals decided in 2011, and 12% in 2010.

Those making appeals to the Designated Areas Appeals Advisory Board can be aided by a contribution of up to €1,350 from the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht towards an appellant’s costs for experts to produce scientific reports and to comment on National Parks and Wildlife Service reports.
