Gaeltacht aid scheme taken over
As the legal “winding up” process continues, project promoters with fully completed contracts were contacted recently with a view to verifying project information, in order to facilitate payment of outstanding amounts.
Once this process is complete the local development companies contiguous to Gaeltacht areas will form part of an interim system of payment, in the short term, said Environment Minister Phil Hogan.
Meanwhile, his department will request expressions of interest from established local development companies in delivering the LEADER rural development scheme in MFG areas.
&=&= nIn Co Cork, six other local development companies could be in line to take over the MFG activities.
A progress report shows that they approved projects to the value of €4,163,164.14 in 2011. IRD Duhallow was the busiest, with 63 projects worth €1,471,724.
Avondhu Blackwater Integrated Local Development approved 37 projects in 2011, worth €1,285,179.85 in 35 community groups in Blarney, Fermoy, Mallow and their surrounding areas.
South & East Cork Area Development had 42 projects in its area to the south and east of Cork city, worth €1,189,652.
West Cork Development Partnership Ltd in the south west of the county (electoral areas of Bandon, Skibbereen, Bantry and parts of the Macroom electoral area) had 35 projects totalling €1,165,048.08.
Ballyhoura Development’s 43 projects in South and East Co Limerick and North East Co Cork were valued at €1,180,28 in 2011.
Comhar na nOileáin Teo, covering offshore islands with permanent residents had 12 projects worth €216,608.29.
