THE great thing about farming, we are all told by those who work in offices, is that we get to work outside in the fresh air.

Last Friday, after the livestock sale in Carrick on Suir, part of me hankered for the stuffy security of an office job. A paper pushing, non-exciting office job, with the security of a guaranteed wage at the end of the week.

What caused me to have such thoughts? Why even consider an easier, less stressful life? Simply because when I saw 292kg Aberdeen Angus cross yearling bullocks making €910. I really did think the lunatics had taken over the asylum. And just for the record, in my opinion, there wasn’t anything very fancy about them.
