Kinsale members join scrap metal initiative in aid of community centre

THE scrap iron price boom has caught the attention of fundraisers, and Kinsale Macra na Feirme are the latest to launch a metal collection drive.

They are doing it as a joint community fundraising initiative in conjunction with the town’s Sáile Sports and Community Centre and collection will take place over two days next week, Friday and Saturday, January 20 and 21.

Collectors are interested in all unwanted scrap metal — from old tractors to saucepans, the list is endless.

Collection will at the Sáile centre, opposite Kinsale Community School, from 9am to 5pm on both days.

The proceeds will go towards the construction of the Sáile sports and community centre, which will include a community/sports hall, gymnasium, dance studio (including martial arts and boxing facilities), multi-purpose meeting rooms and a children’s playground.

Sáile is seeking help from businesses and the community to raise €2 million to make this project a reality.

Anne Roche, president of Kinsale Macra, said: “It is a great opportunity for young people in the club to get involved in such an important project, which will be of benefit to all communities and organisations in the Kinsale region.”Further details: 086-3953573/086-0603247.
