CLARE 2011 is a series of forestry events in Co Clare up to October 19.

Teagasc, the Forest Service, IFA, Coillte and the National Parks and Wildlife Service are among organisations promoting and focusing on the many benefits of forests.

The events are also a great opportunity for forest owners from other counties to meet Co Clare forest owners.

Planting and conserving native trees is extremely important. Teagasc, Seed Savers and Celt have come together to demonstrate the importance of tree and orchard planting and management on Tuesday, October 18. All are welcome to this public event at Scariff GAA Hall from 11am to 12.30pm.

A number of workshops and information sessions have been organised to help owners to thin and market timber successfully.

Teagasc and the Forest Service have organised a thinning workshop for forest owner groups on Monday, October 10, at Scariff GAA Hall at 10.30am. Contact Teagasc at 087-2242281 to register in advance.

Steps To Thinning And Marketing Your Timber will take place the next day, Tuesday, October 11. Organised by Teagasc and the Forest Service, it will showcase a farm forest where first and second thinning have been carried out. It takes place at Feakle Community Centre from 11am to 12.30, all are welcome.

Focus On Forestry — Clare 2011 will give business owners information about wood as an alternative and renewable heating solution. Clare County Council, Clare Local Development Company and Limerick Clare Energy Agency, are involved, it’s on Wednesday, October 19 at council buildings at 10.30am. Register in advance by October 14, at 086 0436321.
