TD says milk derogation makes sense not just for Ireland but for the EU

FARMERS are sending high quality dairy cows for slaughter because of the danger of going over the milk quota, said Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Agriculture Michael Moynihan, who called this week for a derogation that would allow Ireland to go over quota this year, supply more milk to the EU and sell to other international markets.

He said Ireland is even prevented from putting in place a local agreement with Britain, with whom we share a land border, expected to be 20% below quota.

“Putting in place a derogation makes sense not just for Ireland but for the EU as a whole,” said the Cork North-West TD.
