Showjumper Harty honoured at Dungarvan Show

IT was 9.30pm when the last pony jumped at 95th Dungarvan Show — one of their most successful ever, according to organisers.

Local youngster Tommy Harty was presented with a memento to mark his participation on the Irish showjumping team which won gold at the European Championships in Portugal. Co Waterford man, international rider Francis Connors, won the Grand Prix showjumping.

Co Wexford exhibitor Margaret Jeffares showed the champion hunter, while the young horse title went to Tipperary exhibitor Aidan Ryan. Champion filly was shown by Cecelia Delaney from Co Kildare, while Michael Roche, Foulksmills, Co Wexford showed the champion half-bred broodmare and won the Beeches Stud nominations to Mahler and Ask with his two thoroughbred mares. The new Waterford Horse Breeders Group Future Performance awards were won by Tom Horgan from Kilmacthomas (2 year old) and Pat Cunningham, Dungarvan (3 year old). William Williamson, Glandore, Co Cork showed the champion show hunter pony; Sam Baker’s Uluruwas champion working hunter pony.

The Kellys of Burncourt, Co Tipperary won the Glanbia Super Cow competition and the overall best Friesian exhibitor award. The overall beef championship was won by Pat Meehan, Pallaskenry, Co Limerick. The junior stock person award winner was Roger Roycroft, Dunmanway, Co Cork. Top sheep prize went to Pat Whyte, Padraig Keane was top under-12 years sheep handler. Kate Gernie’s retriever was the champion dog.
