Midleton Agricultural Show
THE annual Midleton agricultural show takes place on Sunday, May 29 at Paddocks, Broomfield, Midleton. This will be the 106th show. This year we are very fortunate in having the president of the Aberdeen Angus Cattle Society of Britain and Ireland, Albert de Cogan, as our chairman, and Thomas O’Riordan, President of the Simmental Society, who is our vice-chairman.
The main attraction is our guest of honour, Paul Townend, the champion national hunt jockey. A presentation will be made to Paul at 3.45pm to acknowledge his achievement,
With show entries holding at previous years levels and better, all we need is the weather to be kind to us.
There is a very varied and wide programme of events for both young and old. This year, the committee are reviving the arts/crafts, baking and poultry section, with classes for both children and adults. In the cattle section, there are young handlers’ dairy and beef classes; these classes will commence at 12:30pm. The usual classes for cattle, horses, ponies, sheep, dogs, and show jumping, will also take place, with judging commencing at 11am. In the show jumping section, there will be a Munster Greyhounds Night 1.3 metre grand prix qualifier, and Munster Greyhounds Night 110cm qualifier, as well as the orange and green pony league qualifiers.
A Ballymaloe Country Relish ladies qualifier will also be held. The jumping programme starts at 10am.
For visitors to the show, there is a competition for the most appropriately dressed person; this gives ladies and gents a chance to win a meal for two. Look out also for our children’s corner.
The wide variety of trade stands incudes some local artisans exhibiting their wares.
