Lisselan Farmon the market
According to Mark Blackburn, they’ve been mulling it over for some time and have finally made a decision.
“The family have had Lisselan for 20 years, and the farm part is completely separate to the house and gardens. We’ve decided to look at what we do in the future in regard to the leisure aspect, and take advantage of the fact that it’s a good time to separate it out.
“It went really well for us over the years and we’ll be sorry to let it go. We have to make some hard decisions, we can’t do everything, and have decided to concentrate on Lisselan House and gardens,” he says.
There is no direct correlation between the sale of the farm and the success of the growing leisure aspect of the demesne, said Blackburn. Estates cost money to run and with over 400 acres they’re rationalising the enterprise to golf and leisure, with some long-term plans for the estate, but nothing concrete at the moment.
The stud farm element is now more a less a hobby, he says, with most of their horse breeding and training happening outside Ireland.
