Final purchase brings Co Cork sale to €1.95m

KILLAHORA House at Glounthaune, Co Cork, set a new €18,000 per acre level at auction just before Christmas, and now, the last lot of this residential farm has been sold.

Final purchase brings Co Cork sale to €1.95m

The main bulk of the 98-acre farm, some 56 acres of tillage land, was sold to neighbouring farmer Denis Barrett immediately after auction on December 16 for €1 million.

The house and eight acres were bought by David Watson, who has now purchased the remaining 27.5 acres of the farm, which brings the total of the sale up to €1.95 million — just under the guide of €2 million — not bad in a recession.

Despite a decrease in per acre prices flagged in the new Knight Frank survey, land in Cork and Kerry has sold well this year, with an average of €10,000 per acre and high levels for exceptional farms.
