ENVIRONMENT Minister John Gormley says the Government’s “milestone” Climate Change Bill poses absolutely no threat to the sustainable future of agriculture in Ireland.

He expects the Bill to come before the houses of the Oireachtas next month.

It is the Government’s legislative framework to make Ireland a low-carbon, climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable society. It has a short-term target to 2020 of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 2.5% per year on average, compared to 2008 emissions — more than twice the reduction achieved in recent years.
