€16,000 per acre near Kinsale

A TOP quality 50-acre farm at Castlepark, Kinsale, set a new benchmark figure for south Cork land, when it sold last at auction last Tuesday for €780,000.

The farm on the outskirts of the famous town was owned by the Sheehy family, and sold for the equivalent of €16,000 per acre.

There were two strong bidders out of a total of six bidders. The farm opened at €550,000 but was bid up to €700,000 within a minute.

It was put on the market at €760,000, said Joe McCarthy of Irish and European, and was then sold at €780,000 to Ted Hallissey, solicitor, acting in trust for a client. Joe McCarthy, who stood a round for the room, said he received hearty congratulations from farmers who saw the result as a vote of confidence in the business.
