Million euro price tag for 91 acres
Ernest Forde is to bring the neat 91-acre farm to auction on December 3 at the Brogan Inn, Bandon. While no reserve has been disclosed, the agent expects it to make in excess of €1 million.
He’s also selling in tidy lots, so farmers with limited means may get a look-in.
The farm includes a period farmhouse, which is at least 150 years old, says Forde, and which hasn’t been lived in for upwards of 20 years. It’s a double-sided house with a valley between, and was a fine residence in its day, and Forde says it could be restored to its former glory.
The farm’s proximity to Bandon, and the house’s lovely setting, amidst trees and at the end of a long driveway, should bring in the hobby farmer buyer, perhaps from the town’s professionals.
It is adjacent to an old courtyard with stone outhouses, that may have some conversion potential and then, there’s a fairly modern farmyard with an 80-head cubicle house and silage and slurry pits. The farm is in one block with excellent road frontage of at least 8 km onto a country road connecting to the main Bandon-Timoleague road.
Because of this, the land divides easily into lots. Lot 1 is the residence, outbuildings and 30 acres. Lot 2 is 32 acres, and lot 3 is 29 acres.
Good quality, level, south-east facing ground, the farm at Haghill House, Knocknagurrane, Bandon has been let for a number of years, and is a rare sale in an area renowned for the quality of its farmland.
The auction at the beginning of the Christmas season will be a barometer of local and regional confidence in the business of farming.
