Dairy farmers turn attention to vending machines for milk
On the Continent, milk dispensing is more developed. Dairy farmer Bruno Stauf owns the “Milchtankstelle”, 30km from Cologne in Germany. This milk filling station is open 24 hours, seven days a week, dispensing milk at 70c per litre. The customer simply inserts the money, puts their container under a nozzle, and presses a button.
“We were no longer getting very much for our milk from the local dairy,” Stauf told the Reuters news agency. “For half a year, we were only getting 20 cents per litre, and when it’s like that, you have to do something else,” Stauf said.
