Farm with grass and woodland 20 minutes from the city

FARMS so close to Cork city don’t come up very often, says Dónal Barry of BMK auctioneers, about a 97-acre holding at Kildinan, Co Cork, just 20 minutes’ drive from Cork city.

Located in a strong dairying belt between Rathcormac and Glenville, the farm is an executor’s sale, and comes with a residence and old stone farmyard.

It’s a very attractive holding, says Barry, and part of the yard has high stone wall boundaries, with conversion potential in the lofted outhouses.

The main house is rather small, at 800 square feet, with two bedrooms, but it has a certain charm and could be extended as part of an overall renovation, says Barry.

So far, interest has been very strong, he says, with a number of brochures posted out to interested parties.

Price has a lot to do with it, he says, because at the overall guide price of €700,000, the per-acre price is just over €7,000, seen as an affordable level for farmer and equestrian or hobby farmer buyers.

The size of the property will also generate interest, and with land prices at their lowest level in years, those with rainy day money may be prepared to take a chance.

The property comprises 87 acres of good quality grassland, and 13 acres of mature woodland in a location four miles from Rathcormac and five miles from the village of Watergrasshill.

The land is excellent for grazing or tillage, says Barry, who says he’s very hopeful of a sale, based on the interest so far. The sale is by private treaty, through Barry Martin Kennedy Auctioneers.
