NEW entrants to dairying are again expected to get one quarter of the 1% milk quota increase this year.

It is expected that new entrants who bought quota through recent national trading schemes will be accommodated, probably with a free allocation to take them up to a 200,000 litre limit. Details are expected shortly from the Department of Agriculture.

Meanwhile, ICOS has urged farmers to seek realistic milk quota prices in the current trading scheme, in which tomorrow is the deadline for sellers or buyers to apply.
