CWT’s fifth herd retirement effort

LAST week, the US Department of Agriculture announced that the relationship of feed costs to milk prices for dairy farmers had reached the lowest point since it began keeping records.

Although milk prices are high, feed prices for maize, soybeans and hay are dragging down profitability.

Cooperatives Working Together, the farmer-funded and -led programme to help balance milk supply and demand, has announced its fifth herd retirement effort.

Dairy farmers who are members can submit bids to sell out their future milk production, and are “paid out” by CWT.
