DISPOSAL of waste plastic presents continuing problems for many farmers. Getting rid of waste silage coverings is expensive and troublesome.

And many have no way of properly disposing of the many other forms of waste plastic on farms, such as fertiliser bags, containers and wrappings.

The silage coverings disposal scheme struggles from crisis to crisis, even though farmers are now paying twice for the scheme. Having paid a recycling levy on all silage plastic at point of purchase, farmers have to make an additional payment for on-farm collection, or deliver the plastic to a collection point which may be many miles away.
