No cases of brucellosis were recorded in 2007

There was no new case of Brucellosis infection confirmed in the country last year, in sharp contrast to the spiralling infection during the last decade, when the disease ravaged herds in the Munster area like “wild fire” and dairy herd owners lived in fear of a lifetime of building up a valuable herd being wiped out overnight with a serious outbreak.

The official outcome from 2007 show that there were 243 “reactors” identified in 161 herds, but they all turned out to be “false positives” and the year is being hailed as a landmark in the control and eradication of the dreaded infection.
