BEEF prices continued to harden at the factories this week, while the supply of cattle, although stabilising, remained tight, with the intake well below this time last year.

In general, prices are 3 to 5 cents/kg (1p or 2p/lb) ahead of last week, and demand for cattle continues very positive, although a number of processors have adjusted their requirements and reduced working hours.

Another positive over the past week has been an improvement in the trade in Britain, and cattle prices in Britain have increased in recent days. But weaker consumer demand is reported in continental beef markets.
