DEMAND for lambs remains strong and prices are firm, at least retaining the improvement of the past few weeks.

Up to €51 over for good quality in marts

Opening at a base of 394 cents/kg (141p/lb) on Monday, the prices on offer were unchanged for Tuesday, although fewer plants were in the market for hoggets.

In the marts, up to €51 over was paid for good quality hoggets on Monday, and while the trade in Britain has weakened with strong supplies, the market on the continent is holding up well, with an improvement in demand.
