Suckler Herd scheme proves big incentive for farmers

INCENTIVES to do the job better are always eagerly grasped by farmers, with several thousand applications being made per day to the Animal Welfare, Recording and Breeding Scheme for Suckler Herds.

The scheme will help to maintain the suckler herd, and improve the quality of animals being bred for the beef industry.

Quality has generally improved — more in some regions of the country than others. Overall, there is no dramatic improvement in the grades of carcasses at beef factories.
