The big winners at the weekend shows

THE winner of the non-pedigree suckler cow and calf All Ireland championship at Mohill Show in Co Leitrim last Sunday was shown by Derry and Sharon Rothwell, Greenhall, Tinahely, Co Wicklow, with a qualifier from Ossory Show. Garret McGuinness, Drogheda, took the reserve honours.

After several attempts in recent years, George Draper, Ballincarr, Co Sligo, won the Leitrim Draught Breeders championship at Mohill. He had contested the final of this Irish Horse Board sponsored championship previously and had shown the reserve champion once. But he went one better by taking the title last Sunday.

There was a strong line up of quality Irish Draught mares on view at Mohill, where the reserve honours went to Leitrim exhibitor, Padraig FitzPatrick, Manorhamilton.

Eddie Murphy, Charlestown, Co Mayo, won the Roscommon Irish Draught yearling filly championship at Roscommon Show last weekend.
