A STRONG trade for underage heifers is the exception to the general pattern of very little change in prices on offer from processors for steers, while cow prices are at best holding their own.

Scarcity pushes under-age beef price

Prices on offer for younger heifers moved well clear of steers this week, with strong demand for the under age females to fill the Christmas supermarket trade orders.

The overall supply of cattle to factories was reported to be well maintained this week, even after four consecutive weeks of high intakes.
