New milk system will increase farmer freedom to trade quota

New milk system will increase farmer freedom to trade quota

That’s what Agriculture and Food Minister Mary Coughlan told the annual conference dinner of the Irish Co-operative Organisation Society, the co-ops umbrella body.

“Surprisingly, some sellers appear to believe that their freedom to trade quota is being restricted as a result of this new trading scheme. Nothing could be further from the truth,” she said. Minister Coughlan said the new system will replace the milk quota restructuring scheme, which has served its purpose over the years, and will provide a better mechanism to recycle quota to active and progressive dairy farmers.
