Shock for farmers: electricity prices third highest in Europe

WITH farmers complaining bitterly about rising electricity costs, some of the farming organisations could be a lot more vocal in demanding an immediate reversal of the pending increase in ESB charges.

Electricity is a particularly expensive input for dairy farmers during the peak milk production months.

A recent independent survey, showing the price of electricity in Ireland is the third highest in Europe, confirms for farmers that they are paying too much for their power supply.
