Pilot plastic scheme took 7,000 tonnes from farms

‘Once-off’ free collection of old silage coverings was launched to eliminate the backlog which greatly exceeded the capacity of the levy-funded system of collection and recycling.

In four western counties, 7,000 tonnes of waste plastic were delivered by farmers and are being shipped to Scotland for re-cycling. The scheme is to be extended to all other counties to clear the huge backlog which accumulated over three years.
