O’Connells score eighth Simmental championship win

NOTED breeders Peter and Marion O’Connell won their eighth Simmental championship of 2006 at Clonmel Show — an outstanding achievement for their Raceview herd at Knoppogue, Mallow, which has also won seven interbreed championships.

Central to their successes is their superb four-year-old cow, Raceview Matilda Stella, which they bred themselves. The first calver, by Raceview King out of Moyessa Stella, is carrying twin calves, and is showing in excellent condition.

She has won the Tralee, Clonakilty, Bandon, Cork, Midleton, Charleville, Athlone and Clonmel championships, and was interbreed champion at all but Athlone. She will be rested after contesting Saturday’s Barryroe Show.
