Barryroe guild recalls a great year

BARRYROE guild members held their AGM on June 6. Mary McCarthy and Eileen O’Leary, information officers, attended.

The following is an account of their activities during the past year as read by the secretary Nan Walsh:

September: Two members attended a course in An Grianán.

October: Some members were present at a concert to honour the late Judy Murphy, West Cork vice-president.

Also this month, three members attended a craft day in Gaggin Hall.

November: Members attended the Cork Federation Cultural Evening and took part in the entertainment that evening.

February: Some members attended a fun night in the Leap Inn, consisting of singing, dancing, poetry reading etc.

March: Members attended a training day in the West Cork Hotel, Skibbereen.

May: The federation AGM in Ballinspittle and the federation’s 70th celebrations in Bandon were the two trips undertaken this month.

In all, it was a great year of work and socialising.

The officers for the coming year are: president, Maura Holland, secretary, Eleanor Moloney and treasurer Ann Finn.

A glowing tribute was paid to Nan Walsh who retired as secretary after three years in office.

The guild will resume meetings in September.
