A RDS Silver Medal will be presented for the Holstein Friesian Champion of the Spring Dairy Fair in Cavan Equestrian Centre next Saturday — the first qualifier for the 2006 RDS/Irish Holstein Friesian Association Champion of Champions.

Contenders for this new title will also be drawn from the Tullamore Show in August, the Baileys Champion in Virginia in September and the National Dairy Show at Millstreet in October.

Each of the four champions — including the Irish Examiner Farming National Dairy Show supreme champion at Millstreet — will receive an RDS Silver Medal.

A highly distinguished panel of judges will then decide who receives the title of RDS Champion of Champions at the end of 2006.

The winning owner will receive the magnificent sterling silver Spring Show trophy which was presented by the British Friesian Cattle Society to the RDS in 1955.

The other major development for Holstein Friesian breeders this year is the return of contenders from Northern Ireland.

The ten years long export shutdown imposed due to Britain’s BSE problem is being lifted this summer.
