Price disappointment for Irish pig producers

IRISH pig producers were disappointed this week when prices increased by 3c/kg in Dawn and Galtee, and only 2c/kg in Glanbia, despite a significantly stronger market across the EU.

Price disappointment for Irish pig producers

IFA Pigs Committee Chairman Pat O’Keeffe said Ireland stays second from the bottom in the EU price league, after two weeks of price rises in Denmark, Holland, France and Belgium, bringing the EU average to 1.40/kg, compared to Ireland’s 1.20/kg.

He revealed that IFA and suppliers are meeting the management at Glanbia and Dairygold, respectively seeking a reflection of the increased value of pigs in prices to producers, and bridging of the 3-4c/kg price gap between Glanbia and the national average.
