Farmers to protest against importation of cheap beef

FARMERS in Kerry are planning a demonstration to highlight what they claim is the large-scale importation of beef from South America.

Willie Spring, PRO for the Kerry Farmers’ Action Group, yesterday claimed that 90% of beef used by the catering industry in the county was now imported and consumers should know what they are eating.

“This may be cheap beef for those buying it and the consumer, but farmers are being left high and dry,” he said.
